So much has happened since you last invited me into your home. A couple of days after I prepared this podcast last week our wonderful Queen passed away at Balmoral. She was an extraordinary lady, a sincere Christian, a wise advisor to world figures, a caring family member and a reassuring presence who took an interest in the lives of ordinary people, and represented us all on the global stage. How so many people loved her!

We mourn her passing and pray for her family. We especially remember our new King Charles III as he takes up the great responsibility of being our monarch immediately after losing his beloved mama…

So today’s service includes much reflection on Queen Elizabeth’s life. I wonder whether you ever met her. I wonder what she meant to you. We have much to learn from pondering her example as a sincere Christian living through changing times.

This week we also consider the meaning of the cross. How does it change us as we meditate on the fact that while we were still sinners Christ died for us?
