Herbert Hoover is mostly remembered as the president who did nothing to avert or abate the effects of the Great Depression. 
Elected in 1928, Hoover’s one term in office would be defined by high unemployment, bread lines, and the complete paralysis of the US economy, leading to a surge of resentment towards Republican fiscal policies, and the rise of a relatively unknown governor from New York, who would promise a “new deal” for the American people in 1932.
