How can Christians share the gospel in a community where many people are busy, skeptical, or simply uninterested in faith? In Acts 17, the Apostle Paul offers a compelling model. Finding himself in Athens, Paul entered the life of the city, listened carefully, recognized the idols shaping its people, and used what he observed to point them toward the living God.

Pastor Mark Seager calls this the “Athenian Strategy”: engage people with genuine interest, expose the false promises of the things they build their lives around, and point them to Jesus Christ. Paul’s example challenges us neither to withdraw from the world nor blend into it, but to run toward the people around us with compassion, courage, and the good news of the risen Christ.

Acts 17 shows how thoughtful conversations and faithful relationships can open doors for the gospel—not only in ancient Athens, but here in Ashburn and throughout Northern Virginia.
