#19 - Parents

Ahh.. Parenting.. The rollercoaster of emotions and life changes that come with parenting are infinite! Some days are easy and loving and nurturing. Other days you feel like a bomb went off and you struggle to pick up the pieces. Learning to regulate your emotions as the adult in the situation can be difficult and disheartening. Having to repeat yourself 20 times in 30 seconds just to have your toddler do the exact opposite of what you were asking is enough for anyone to go insane. I'm here to tell you that you are doing a great f*cking job!!! I'm here to give you the pep talk you need to keep going. Keep learning. Keep taking time for yourself so that you can have the capacity to continue. Since you're listening to this podcast, I know you're on the right track!!

3 Things Parents Can Do To Stay Encouraged During Tough Times:

1. Practice Breathing: That sounds weird because breathing is one of our body's autonomous functions, however conscious breathing can help to regulate the nervous system and bring peace into almost any chaotic situation. You can breathe deep by yourself or do what I do and include your children in your breathing exercises and encourage them to breathe with you. I personally like to go outside, notice something in nature, take 3-5 deep breaths together, and then go back inside to re-address whatever situation blew up.

2. Write It Down: Take a moment to reflect on your parenting skills. Where did yo learn these skills and techniques from. Do they really align with how you would like to be parenting your children? What/How would you like to show up as a parent? How would you like to ideally interact with your kids on a daily basis? What type of influence do you want to be? What would you like your legacy to be? Take some time and write down the answers to some or all of the questions above and create a clear visual of how you would like to be parenting and then think of 1-3 things you can do each day to create the type of space you want you and your children to live in.

3. Asanas & Affirmations: Energy, specifically negative energy, gets stored and sometimes stuck in the tissues in our bodies. If too many emotions get stuck they can show up as physical ailments like digestive issues, pain, skin irritations, trouble breathing, chronic headaches... the list is endless. Moving your body in a fluid motion using Asanas or Yoga Poses can help to release some of that stagnant energy and give you the boost you need. Pairing movement with affirmations helps to reprogram the mind, body and spirit all in one. I highly recommend listening to these affirmations on repeat (YouTube Link Below) while breathing through some soothing Vinyasa Flows.
