Join us this week as Anastasia takes us through water lily choked waterways to an island home to hundreds, if not thousands of unsettling inhabitants. (Fair warning, both of us were mentally drained this week and had no filter or cares to give. Our tired brains think we're hilarious, so welcome to the no filter club!)

Just south of Mexico City, between the canals of Xochimico you can find a small island with a sad background that was never intended to be a tourist destination. The island is known as Isla de las Munecas- The Island of the Dolls. 

The island is a chinampa- or floating garden- of the Laguna de Teshuilo and one of the main attractions of the channels. The owner, Don Julián Santana Barrera, found a young woman on the banks of the island, entangled in the lilies that grow thick through the canal. He began hearing whispers, voices, and footsteps, despite his hut being miles away from civilization.  

Driven by fear, he spent the next fifty years hanging more and more dolls, some missing body parts, all over the island in an attempt to appease what he believed to be the drowned girl's spirit.
