Thousands of people had engaging and compelling interactions with the animatronic character, Quasi the robot - but little did they know that there was a technician behind the scenes, controlling each displayed interaction by the robot. This is called Wizard of Oz - a design method, employed to best understand how a potential user would interact with the real product. If you need to gauge how people will feel about- and how they might perform using a proposed solution, this experience prototyping technique is the way to go.
