Today we are joined by Lloyd Knight, Principal dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company. Born in England and raised in Miami, Lloyd trained at Miami Conservatory of Ballet and New World School of the Arts. He joined Martha Graham Dance Company in 2005 and performs the major male roles of the Graham repertory including in Appalachian Spring, Embattled Garden, Night Journey and many others. He is currently a principal guest artist for The Royal Ballet of Flanders.
We talk with Lloyd about his start in dance, his beginnings with Martha Graham Dance Company, some of his favorite onstage memories, and his first year participating in the Lake Tahoe Dance Festival. Since the festival is going virtual in 2020, we will all get the privilege of watching Lloyd's duet with Wendy Whelan in Martha Graham's “Moon.”
This episode is brought to you by Yumiko and the Lake Tahoe Dance Festival.
