In 1968 MLK wrote "Chaos & Community" It was a call to this nation's better angles to find sympathy and empathy for each other. For white America to view rioting in Watts, CA as a cry of desperation, and not to use Watts to justify a backlash to the costs of the whole civil rights movement...This all happened right before his life was ended by assassination.
