By the time the 1982 season rolled around in northeastern Wisconsin the late model divisions had evolved into two totally different animals on the dirt tracks like Shawano Speedway and on the tar at Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna.

Mike Randerson was an integral part of the last three drivers in northeast Wisconsin who still worked to remain competitive on both surfaces - Lowell Bennett, Cliff Ebben and M.J. McBride.
