The Sabbath dates back to creation week. On the seventh day God rested. Adam and Eve observed the Sabbath as did all the righteous up to the flood and then afterward. When God gave the 10 Commandments to Israel He said, "Remember the Sabbath". While in captivity in Egypt the Israelites had forgotten the Sabbath.
