I wanted to call Richard and say something stupid, like “Happy September!” I never call men, so I finally got over the urge, but thought I must be crazy to even want to say such a thing. I have never had any desire to call “Mr. America” with all of his good looks and money and his admitted obsession with me. One call is all it would take to have him wrapped around my little finger and yet I run from him. He told me that only once before had he fallen so hard and she had died 10 years ago. Unsolved Mysteries returned my call and said they may still want to do a story on Don. I’d like to know what happened to him, but I don’t want him back.
From the future: I’m trying to remember Mr America’s first name. His last name was Collins and I think his first name was Tom, but not sure now (20 years later) Collins Ranch Road was named after his family’s orange grove business. He used to peel oranges for me and took great pride in the fact that he could remove the peel in one long loop. Weirdly, Don used to do that too.
I think I may have met Collins via Lance Ponton, but am not sure. He’d call me up in the middle of the night and always seemed so lost and forlorn.
I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views. If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story. The titles are the dates things happened. I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story. My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.
