Psalm 23


1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.


2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.


3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.


4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.


5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.


6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.




  • You are either on your way into the valley, coming out of it, or on the mountaintop.

  • Where do you spend most of your time? In the mountains or in the valleys?

  • Valley experiences teach us about life.



    • God’s grace, leading and mercy will never fail us. His way might not be the same as the way we planned.

    • God nows what we can take and what we can't take.

    • Someone who is good to call while you are in a valley is someone who is walking with the Lord.

    • God never intends for us to stay in the valley.

    • People say that you can meet God on the mountain, but in reality, you can meet God anywhere.






      • David relates this to a flock of sheep because he was a Shepard.

      • Just like David placed himself between the beast and the sheep, Jesus places himself between the devil and us.





        • Our God is not shallow.

        • The mountain is where we meet God, and the valley is where we do our struggling.



          • The valley is very different than the mountaintop.



          • The valley is where life becomes challenging, battles are fought, feelings become hurt, and attitudes are involved.




          • In the valley, we struggle with our fears, hopes, and painful circumstances.




          • The valley is inevitable.




          • God will meet you in the valley.
