The No Complaining Project

1a - Reinforcing Your Why

Listen Later

[TRANSCRIPT]

Today's practice will help you get clear on why you want to stop complaining. This is important because sometimes breaking a habit can get hard and you can lose motivation. But if you're clear on your why, then that can help carry you through.

Your choice to stop complaining is a solid one for yourself and for the people around you. Today's practice will reinforce that choice and you can carry this with you going forward.

Let's begin.

Take a moment to settle. Take a deep breath in and hold it.

And then breathe out and leave your lungs empty for a moment.

Take a breath in and breathe it out.

One more time. Breathe in. And breathe out.

I'm going to go through a series of questions. Just let them float through your mind. Don't grasp at any and try to figure out the answer to it at this moment. Just ask them silently to yourself as I ask them of you.

What goals do you have for yourself when it comes to stopping complaining? Do you want to reduce your stress levels? Are you aiming for a better overall health? Do you want to improve your mood?

Do you want to stop fighting with your inner critic? Are you looking for more creativity? What is it in terms of benefiting yourself that would make it worth it to do the effort to stop complaining?

Breathe in, and out.

Who else in your life could benefit if you were to stop complaining? What relationships would you like to improve? Are there relationships within your family that you're looking to improve? Interactions with coworkers? Are there friendships that you're looking to improve or deepen?

What are the important relationships in your life? Who else around you could benefit if you were to stop complaining?

Breathe in, and out.

Now take a moment to imagine how you want to feel on a day to day basis. What image of yourself do you want? How do you want to be able to describe yourself? What image of you do you want others to have? How do you want people to think of you?

Imagine how you would like to interact with others and who you are when you have those kinds of interactions.

Breathe in. Breathe out.

What would your life look like if you were to stop complaining? What would change? What would stay the same?

Breathe in. Breathe out. Once more. Breathe in. Breathe out.

That's the end of our practice for today. If you can, I recommend taking a moment right now to write down any images or words that came to mind with as much detail and clarity as you can. Just grab a journal or any random piece of paper and write it down.
