Ep. 2 1st PVC Major Somnath Sharma, born on January 31, 1923, in Himachal Pradesh, was the first recipient of India’s Param Vir Chakra. Serving in the 4th Kumaon Regiment, he displayed extraordinary bravery during the Battle of Badgam in Kashmir on November 3, 1947. Despite being injured, he led his company against overwhelming odds, ultimately sacrificing his life to save Srinagar from enemy forces. His heroic actions and selfless dedication remain a lasting inspiration in Indian military history.
