This is From Warrior to Leader.
My purpose is to provide encouraging, actionable advice and perspective for living an abundant, purposeful, and impactful life with a chronic illness.
I have sickle cell disease. Its a chronic illness, a disability, a genetic blood disorder - there are many ‘negative’ ways to describe it. And rightfully so. My red blood cells are ‘special’ - instead of being round and full like the moon, they take on a crescent shape. Unfortunately this leads to all sorts of complications - including chronic pain.
We’ll touch on that a little more in later posts. Again - whats my purpose here?
Its tiring to go to conferences and events where its all about treatments. More doctors than patients. More pharmaceutical and tech companies and even some well-meaning wellness companies. And EVERY TIME I walk away from these events I feel- depleted and like a victim of my disease. As if the disease isn’t doing enough of that on its own!
As an executive coach, and leadership expert I’ve discovered EMPOWERING ways to deal, and even thrive while living with a chronic illness. Especially as a professional who values autonomy, agency, and social change.
My desire is that this space will be EMPOWERING - leave people with the tools and mindset needed to thrive in the day to day living of a chronic illness. To be examples and agents of change in the work place and community as to the power, the influence, and dare I say - inspiration, that it brings.
