Abiding in our Singleness

With Valentine’s day coming up, it is a big focus and expectation of this world to be with someone. Today, we discuss three basic needs we have found true in our lives and our experiences fulfilling those in the world versus fulfilling it in God through abiding.

Three basic needs:

A need to depend on someone else:

Definition of dependence in this reference: The desperate need for someone in your life.

Scripture References: Genesis 2, Hosea (entire book), 1 Corinthians 7:8

A need to share thoughts and hearts

Really desiring someone to speak with, to sit down face to face and share your heart.

Scripture References: Psalm 119, Genesis 3:10

A need to have someone else fulfill the desires of our heart

Genesis 3:16 – Post eating of the tree of Knowledge of good and evil “…Yet your desire will be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” The desire in that reference is that Adam must fulfill Eve, it is a desire bordering on insanity. This translates to us searching the world to fulfill us, to be God for us. This desire can only be fulfilled in God as it was prior to the fall in Genesis 2.
