This weekend we continue in our series called "CHRISTIANITY OVER CULTURE". In this series we are studying the first letter to the church in Corinth. This letter addresses many of the issues we face in our US American culture. Like the Corinthians we are affluent and driven and so have some of the same struggles they had.
This week we will learn about the view we should have towards spiritual leaders. God uses leaders to help us grow in Him. They are limited and the view we should have of them is presented in this week's message. We have a tendency to get attached to spiritual leaders in a way that causes divisions. Of course this error is one that we are prone to in our culture as well. When a pastor leaves a church many of the people leave after he does. When talking at Bible studies a person brings up their preference for the former pastor over the present one. We tend to build loyalties around spiritual leaders. This is a mistake due to immaturity.
This week we will learn how to grow past this immature tendency to attach, in the wrong way, to our spiritual leaders. We need to allow spiritual leaders to help us attach to Jesus. He is the one we must be following. Just like when we are young we look to our parents for everything we can grow very dependent on our spiritual leaders. We must make sure we are growing in our dependence on Jesus. They will not always be there and so we can fall away if God moves them somewhere else. Leaders can sometimes encourage this out of a need to be needed. We must grow and mature remembering that we are all following Jesus. Join us this week to gain the proper perspective of the spiritual leaders that God puts in our lives.
