Sharlene is a young, eclectic, soulful, creative woman of color whom is passionate about holistic health and wellness for marginalized communities. She has a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology with a minor in Social Work, and first started practicing Yoga back in 2014. While currently enrolled in a 200-hour (1 year long) Yoga Alliance Registered-Yoga Teacher Training Program, she also works full time in the high stress environment of the MA Correctional system. Being exposed to that duality gives her a unique perspective on how stress takes a toll on a person and how important it is to take care of yourself. Yoga seemed to manifest in her life at divine timing and really became what she states as “the perfect intersection between mind body & spirit”. Now more than ever, self-care and self-love are of the upmost importance in today’s society, but there is still a need in the Yoga community for more diverse representation. Sharlene’s hope is to one day open up her own Yoga/Wellness Studio for people of color, be it male or female, to come and practice Yoga. Her dream is that it will also serve as a safe haven where people can create, cultivate, and foster their own wellness journeys.
