Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians had not brought the healing he hoped for. The church was still struggling, tensions remained, and painful questions lingered. So through Titus, Paul sends another letter—more personal, more urgent, and filled with the deep love of a spiritual father for his people.
Paul opens with grace and peace, praising God as the Father of mercy and the source of all comfort. In every trial, God comforts his people so they can comfort others. The more they suffer for Christ, the more they will experience Christ’s comfort.
Then Paul speaks honestly about his own suffering. In Asia, he was crushed beyond his ability to endure. He believed he would die. Yet in that darkest moment, he learned not to rely on himself, but on God, the One who raises the dead. And the God who rescued him once would rescue him again.
Because some in Corinth questioned Paul’s motives, he explains why he changed his plans. He had delayed his visit not out of weakness or indecision, but to spare them another painful confrontation. His previous letter had been written through tears, not to wound them, but to show them how deeply he loved them.
Paul urges the church to forgive the man who had caused so much trouble. The discipline had been enough. Now it was time to comfort him and welcome him back, so he would not be overcome by sorrow. In forgiving one another, the church would keep Satan from gaining a foothold.
Still burdened and anxious to hear how the Corinthians had responded, Paul traveled to Troas and then to Macedonia in search of Titus. Yet even in uncertainty, he bursts into praise: God is leading him in Christ’s triumphal procession.
Paul describes believers as the fragrance of Christ in the world. To some, that fragrance is life. To others, it is death. The message of Christ cannot be ignored; it changes every heart that hears it.
Unlike those who preach for profit or personal gain, Paul declares that he speaks with sincerity, with Christ’s authority, and under the watchful eye of God. This second letter is not only a defense of Paul’s ministry—it is a moving testimony of suffering, forgiveness, comfort, and the unshakable faithfulness of God.
Verse of the Day: 1 Thessalonians 5:14
Brothers and sisters, we urge you to warn those who are lazy. Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak. Be patient with everyone.
Message of the Day:
