2 Corinthians 1 - Do You Need God’s Comfort?
Paul begins by praising God, who is the source of all comfort and compassion. He explains that as believers, we may face trials and troubles, but God is always there to provide comfort and support. Paul shares his own experiences of going through hardships, such as persecution and suffering, but he emphasizes that these experiences have allowed him to rely on God's strength.
A religious mindset is thinking if we pray the right prayers or obey the right commands then God will give us what we want. In fact, we think God owes us. When we don’t get it, we blame God and give up on our religion.
Instead we are invited into a relationship where God is with us in the suffering we experience. In fact, He is “the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” (2 Corinthians 1:4)
The apostle also assures the Corinthians that they can trust in God's faithfulness. He highlights how God's promises are always dependable and that He never lets His people down. Paul reminds them that just as God has rescued them in the past, He will continue to deliver them from challenges in the future.
