Have you ever received a participation award? Maybe it was a trophy at the end of baseball season that you got just for playing.  Awards like that may seem to be petty but as Pastor Michael Hughes explains in 2 Corinthians 1:1-11 consolation isn't meant to be a reward that we can point to in pride, rather it is often to serve as a reminder of God's faithfulness.
