* Paul is talking about his hard words causing sorrow in the people, and that Godly sorrow leads to repentance.
* vs 10 - two sorrows:
* 1) Worldly sorrow - focuses on self and won’t truly repent of sin because he has an image to uphold.
* 2) Godly sorrow - focuses on the sin and repents of it because he wants to be the image of God.
* Worldly sorrow always puts an undo focus on what others think of you.
* A person with worldly sorrow refuses to take ownership of their part in the problem.
* They blame others for their sorrow and refuse to see their own selfishness in the matter.
* Why? Because they have an image to uphold.
* You could apply this verse this way:
* “That relational conflict you’re having right now, if you don’t take ownership of your part, will result in spiritual death for you.”
* Repentance requires us to own our sin and vow not to behave that way any longer.
* This attitude is what sets us free and brings us life.
* But it will only happen when we stop focusing on ourself and what others think of us.
