This episode, we welcome author Esmé Weijun Wang to discuss her debut novel, The Border of Paradise.
Kirkus Reviews called it “Gothic in tone, epic in ambition, and creepy in spades.”
While Wang has been a novelist working on this story since very early in her career, many people know her better as an essayist since that work has been out in the world much longer.
We discuss the process of writing a novel from many different points of view, shifting from non-fiction to fiction in the public eye, and how to deal with having to put your characters through the ringer.
Esmé is a delight and I can't wait to have her back on the show when she writes another book... I suspect there are many stories to come.
