Welcome back to Tales From the Floor, where we will be talking about all things pelvic floor physiotherapy! This week, my team and I will be touching on the tricky topic of leaking or, what’s otherwise known as, incontinence. Defined as any unwanted loss of urine, incontinence is a very common issue, however it’s important to remember that it’s not something we should consider normal. While about 10 per cent of Canadians experience some form of urinary incontinence or fecal incontinence, very few actually discuss this with their health care provider and as pelvic floor physiotherapists, we know that this is an issue that can be fixed. That’s why this episode is dedicated to helping you deal with a leaky pelvic floor.
Today, we will discuss the different types of incontinence including stress incontinence and urge incontinence. Besides this, we’ll also talk about incontinence pads versus menstrual pads, how important it is to treat your bladder like a muscle that needs training, and the negative side effects of those “just in case” pees. Keep listening for tips and tricks on how to get your incontinence under control and join in on the conversation on Facebook and Instagram at @talesfromthefloor and @abodyinmotionrehab.
Tales From the Floor is all about honest, raw, and upbeat conversations that are meant to educate, empower, and introduce you to your pelvic floor as well as the ones we visit on a regular basis. This podcast is for everyone: all genders, all ages, and all stages. No more whispering, it’s time to talk tales from the floor!
