2 Kings 15:3-5 (7/15/21)

Listen Later

* Going halfway is not the best way and puts you in a position where God may have to get you out of the way.
* “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with ALL your might.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10)
* “The slacker buries his hand in the dish, he will not bring it to his mouth.” (Proverbs 19:24)
* “Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.” (Proverbs 10:26)
* Vinegar to the teeth make them softer, weaker, and darker!
* Smoke to the eyes blinds you.
* The slacker will sign up, but he won’t see it through.
* God made us to finish what we start!
* So what happens when we become the slacker?
* Vs 1-5 - King Uzziah (Azariah) was a good king, but he only went halfway.
* This opened him up to other sins - he grew proud.
* God had to remove him.
* Same thing happened to David - he slacked on his job and it opened him up to adultery and murder.
* Fortunately, repentance is the reset.
* But had David made it his habit, God may have responded differently and gotten him out of the way like He did with Saul.
* How do we see it through:
* 1) Begin with the end in mind - Have a clear picture in your mind of what you want. If you want to “see it through” you have to know what’s at the end.
* 2) Know your assignment - think of Esther; she had to be reminded by Mordecai of her assignment cuz she almost didn’t do her job.
* Esther 3:14 - “If you don’t stand now, relief will come from somewhere else. But you and your family will die!”
* 3) Live the tripod:
* Determined - you gotta “really want it.”
* If you don’t “really” want it, don’t start it.
* If you don’t “really” want it, don’t say it (no more “Let’s do coffee”).
* Disciplined - do what you don’t want to get what you do want.
* Diligent - the continual application of discipline even when you can’t see the results.
* Take inventory - in what ways could you be going halfway:
* Spiritually?
* Relationally?
* Physically?
* In your work or business?
