Tides of Change

2. Salt, Sunrises, and Surrender: Inside My First Lobster Season

Listen Later

The first morning I stepped onto the lobster boat, the world was still dark. The air was sharp with salt, the deck lights cut through the blackness, and my brand-new oil gear hadn’t yet earned its stains or stories. That day marked the start of a season I never expected to step into, one that pulled me away from screens and strategy decks and dropped me into the rhythm of the ocean.

In this episode, I’m taking you behind the sunrises you see on Instagram — into the cold 3:45 a.m. mornings, the physical grind of hauling traps, the unpredictable weather that tests your nerve, and the quiet moments on deck that make it all worth it. I’m sharing what it’s been like to trade the polished world of corporate life for something raw, physical, generational… and deeply clarifying.

Fishing alongside my dad, a man who’s spent over fifty years on the water, has reshaped how I think about work, control, and what it means to be rooted in something bigger than myself. With only two months to make a season and the tides calling the shots, I’ve learned quickly that the ocean doesn’t care about your plans, and sometimes, the only path forward is to trust the water beneath you.

If you’re entering a new chapter, craving a slower rhythm, or learning to loosen your grip on the things you can’t control, this story is for you. Come aboard with me as I share the lessons, the beauty, the chaos, and the quiet surrender of my first lobster season, and the ways it’s changing how I move through the rest of my life.
