In 2 Samuel 24, David is tempted and once again falls into sin by taking a census. This census wasn't ordered by God, it was a David thing. We aren't told why, but for whatever reason, he wants to know how many people are in Israel now. God doesn't need our human strength or numbers to win battles. Our legacy is built on God and God alone. God writes His story through us and has all the power to carry out His will in our lives. We can trust Him, rely on Him, and give Him all the glory. We are a part of God's story. It's all about God's legacy, not ours. Humbly running after God with all we got is what our part of His story should always reflect. All that matters is what God does through His anointing that He supplies and us humbly walking in obedience to Him through it. David quickly repents of his sin but still has to face the consequences of his disobedience. Jesus redeems the whole situation and once again brings His glory through the messy realities of David's life - just like He does with each of us. When we choose to spend time with God and in His Word, we will be drawn to a stable life of worship. We all need Jesus. God will do for us whatever we allow. He's looking for an open heart. Once our heart is open to God and we run to Jesus in repentance, He shows up with an eraser bigger than we can ever imagine. It is finished.
