2 Samuel 4 & 5

Listen Later

In 2 Samuel 4 & 5, Saul's 4th son is murdered in his sleep. The murderers try to justify their actions and believe they are doing right in their hearts. Sin can never be justified and is never right. David responds in truth and justice to this murder and is taking his position as king. He is publicly anointed as king of all Israel. They didn't recognize him as their true king until they were all out of options. David's first victory under God's authority is to deal with a city that should have been dealt with when they first entered the land God promised them. David gives God all the glory and honor for the victory. Too often, we cry out to God in repentance when we are out of all other options rather than daily throughout all the moments of our lives. Sin should always be called out and dealt with immediately. Sin will corrupt the heart and lead to death. Sin will be judged and dealt with. It will not be hidden or ignored. Jesus died on the cross to conquer sin and death for all eternity. He is our King for all eternity. Death cannot hold life down. We have the victory. We have Jesus. We can stand in the faith and certainty that we are forgiven and righteous before God because Jesus died for our freedom and righteousness. We do have to repent and submit ourselves and our lives to Christ as our Lord and Savior first. The choice is ours.
