2 Simple Steps to Start Winning with Money

Listen Later

In order to win with money you need a plan. Even if you are broke and living pay check to pay check, there's hope. I talk about two simple steps to get you started on the right path. First you need an emergency fund.  Emergencies are part of life - things happen, having the money set aside for them prevents us from going into debt to pay for the unexpected. Second, I talk about paying down debt using the debt snowball method. Tackling debt can be daunting. Having a simple to follow plan takes something that feels big and scary and makes it much more manageable. Taking control of your finances takes work but you are worth it.

Hello, my name is Tiffany, and welcome to the podcast Working on Amazing.

This is a podcast where we talk about the work that it takes to rebuild an amazing life.

And I use that word rebuild because we're specifically designed for women who feel like they're starting over in the middle of their life.

That can be a horribly itchy feeling.

If that's you, I truly am sorry.

But you know what, it gets better.

I promise it gets so much better.

There is hope, you're not alone.

You're actually in the right place.

So welcome.

I'm so glad you're here.

Let's get down to today's episode.

If you'll remember in the beginning, I said there were five areas I focused on when I rebuild my life.

I focused on my spiritual health, my mental health, my physical health, my financial health, and growth and goals.

So today's episode is going to fall under the umbrella of financial health.

And we're going to talk about what to do when you're ready to start winning with money, but you're at the very beginning, okay?

So before, we've kind of talked about budgeting basics, how to save money, things like that.

So if you're ready to really tackle it, and I say that because you can't just be halfway in.

You've got to be all in.

You've got to say, I am so sick of living paycheck to paycheck.

I am so sick of being broke.

I'm ready to change my mindset and my lifestyle.

It's just like if you want to lose weight or get in shape, you've got to have a lifestyle change.

It's not just a temporary diet thing.

That's very similar to winning with money.

It's a lifestyle change.

So if you're ready to tackle that lifestyle change, to make better decisions with money, this is where we get started.

Today's episode is for you.

So I think I've shared before, when I got divorced, I'd been married for 20 years.

I had two children.

One was in high school, and one was in middle school.

And I just remember going to the grocery store to buy two weeks of groceries.

My kids were with me, and I had $70 in my checking account.

And I wasn't going to get paid for another two weeks.

I had to make this money last, and I had to buy groceries with it.

The kids needed lunches.

The kids, you know, we had to eat dinner.

And I didn't want to tell them we didn't have that much money because I didn't want to stress them out any more than they already were with moving and everything being so different.

It was stressful.

I know what this feels like, okay?

That's the only reason why I bring that up is I've been here, I know what it feels like.

I know the changes that I had to make in order to win with money and succeed.

And in the beginning, it feels kind of tough, right?

So today, if you're really ready to kind of make a big change, a lifestyle change, I'm going to give you two steps to do.

Two things that I think are going to make a big difference.

If you follow through with both of them, you're going to set yourself up to succeed and start winning wi
