In this episode, Drew and Alex discuss the spill of the oil vessel Wakashio off the coast of Mauritius back in August as well as the Nabarima which is spilling off the coast of Venezuela. Both of these spills are unprecedented in size and reflect a growing problem that has gone undiagnosed. These spills are affecting neighboring countries and have decimated fishing markets. They talk about how both these vessels were owned by multinational Japanese companies and have gone unnoticed by international bodies like the International Maritime Organization (IMO). They also discuss how these countries may be victims of a Japanese government scandal and how many countries are fine with turning a blind eye to these spills.
