Take a look. We use stop plus ing when we want to say that we stop doing a habit. For example, if someone used to smoke and doesn't anymore, you would say, he stopped smoking. It's like a big goodbye to that habit. Do you want an example? Here it is. Ella dejó de comer comida chatarra para estar más saludable. Bravo for her.
