The One Thing That's Needful

20: From Barren To Bearing (Part 3)

Listen Later

In today’s episode, Dr. Siohvaughn Funches continues the series, “From Barren to Bearing” (as in bearing much fruit). Dr. Funches picks up from last week’s message and invites you to take the time to listen to last week’s message to understand this week’s message better. Dr. Funches recaps the message from last week, talking about Elizabeth and seeing the heart and hand of God in her life. God is not a respecter of persons. He will bless us as He blessed Elizabeth and Zacharias.  Dr. Funches returns to the account of Elizabeth and Zacharias from last week’s message. Barrenness is not just the inability to conceive a child physically. God is calling us to give birth to spiritual things.

Dr. Funches goes into this week’s message with further exploration of the blessings of God to Elizabeth and Zacharias, and how Mary, the mother of Jesus, was blessed by God’s grace and by hearing from the angel how Elizabeth had been blessed to be in the sixth month of carrying a child, whom we now know was John, the Baptist. God doesn’t need our help to bless us or to turn us from barrenness to bearing. Dr. Funches looks forward to continuing this series with you next week.

Listen in to hear how God has prepared all things to take the New Covenant believer from barren to bearing fruit.

KEY BIBLE VERSES

[7:09] Luke 1:36, 37, NKJV 36 “Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”

[9:43] Psalm 127:1, NKJV 1 Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the Lord guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.

[12:40] Proverbs 25:2, NKJV 2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

[17:50] 2 Corinthians 12:9, NKJV 9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

[28:43] Isaiah 54:9, NKJV 9 “For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.”

[30:02] Isaiah 52:12, NKJV 12 For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.

[30:21] John 19:30, NKJV 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.

[35:37] Luke 1:26–38, NKJV 26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!” 29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.” 38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.
