We catch you up on what we’ve been up to this past week, with a whirlwind trip up to Washington State for our ‘nephew’s’ graduation from a rinky-dink school in a village, then back home for a dance performance, to how we spent our fatherless Father’s Day.
We dive into our topic for the week: the history of burlesque. Samara takes us across the Atlantic to where it all began, opening our eyes to the very funny and mocking history of Victorian burlesque. Then Nikki gives a timeline tour of American burlesque and a few of the incredible women who really gave burlesque its solid foundation within the states. There’s talk about dress straps failing, a great example of “fuck around and find out”, nerds, and how breaking from the status quo transcends time. Rebellion isn’t a phase, it’s an attitude.
This week’s game: Mind. In. The. Gutter. Every time we play this game Samara does her best to redeem herself from the Tornado card. But who is she kidding? She’ll likely never live it down. Nikki is also the winner of this week’s game. Yay, Nikki!🙌
As a bonus story, we share a lovely little argument with our family while up in Washington State. It was all in the name of fun… and choosing sides. A family divided is a family united.
Nerdlesque Festival is annual, started 2014, held in D.C. So, for all our listeners in the D.C. area, go check it out for us and report back!
