Remember, we are still in a time of testing, and we need to resist temptation. There is a devil the Bible says, and we need to resist the temptations of the evil spiritual powers of this world.

Ephesians 6:10-13 NKJV says, 
Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 

Israel had made it out of Egypt and God provided food and water for them and was with them in the desert. There was fire over the Tabernacle in the desert at night and a cloud over it by day for some 39 years! They may have thought that they had it made and were okay with God. Just like Israel was in a time of testing, we are still in a time of testing. Will we follow God and keep His commandments and succeed spiritually or fail.
Deuteronomy 8:2-3 NKJV says,
And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD.
