Howie Makes My Coffee

 

I know Howie loves me.  I know every morning when I wake up to the sound of coffee brewing that I am loved.  I know when he stays up until midnight working on my books so that I can apply for grants.  I know when he can’t sleep nights because he is worrying that some part of my life won’t be absolutely perfect, like the pitch on the tennis court, that he loves me, but he almost never says so.  For Howie to say, “I love you.” it has to have just overwhelmed him to the point that he can’t tighten his lips enough to suppress the words.  All because his father said them so meaninglessly to his mother.  So when Howie says, “I love you so much!” as he did last night, then it is worth writing about.

 

I've been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views.  If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story.  The titles are the dates things happened. I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story.  My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.
