Howie’s Heart Surgery
I kept the following log so I could keep Howie’s extensive friend list up to date on his progress.
1/4/15
The whole day of preparing for, flying to and arriving at the Cleveland Clinic for Howies open heart surgery had me so freaked out, I couldn't speak. I just tried to smile and act confident but kept tearing up. I knew I was in the edge when I read a Facebook post by Dr Wynn recounting her trying day, that included a cat spraying her hair right before going out to see the Phantom of the Opera, and I burst out crying.
Howie has a bad mitral valve, which means that when his heart pumps the valve doesn’t shut all the way and some of the blood leaks backward, rather than pushing through his system. He’s had a murmur his whole life, but the last 4 years the situation has worsened, and in the last few months he’s become short of breath just from walking out to the car.

Howie spent the entire day being poked, poked again to confirm, prodded, x-rayed, and sonogrammed. I think this is the worst part for him. He just hates needles. The day started at 7 am and ran until almost 5 pm.
Hi, I’m Carole Baskin and I’ve been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views. If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story. The titles are the dates things happened. If you have any interest in who I really am please start at the beginning of this playlist: http://savethecats.org/
I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story. My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.
