This is the text from the presentation I created for an MBA class that I used as a guide, so in several cases, I just say, “Tell the story” as I have done so many times. I set it to a video and posted it today.
Left home at 15
Worked 3 jobs at a time, while living in my car, garages and barns, because I felt there was something important I was supposed to do.
Do any of you ever feel that nagging sense that there is something you’re supposed to be doing with your life?
Mine was more than just another annoying voice in my head. It was like being chased by the devil. It felt urgent, and I was sure it had to do with protecting cats, but I’d never even thought about wild cats.
Around the time I was 17 I began rehab and release of native bobcats who had been hit by cars, poisoned or shot by hunters.
When I was in my early 20s I began investing in real estate by buying a $20,000 house for $2,000 because it was in foreclosure. This talk isn’t about that part of my life, but by the time I was 30 I’d built it into a multimillion dollar business. I took out only enough money to scrape by each year and kept building the business because I felt like what ever it was that I was supposed to do with my life; it was going to be expensive.
My late husband was a hoarder. He collected guns, cars, boats, airplanes and then he discovered wild animals.
We were at an exotic animal auction on Nov 4, 1992 buying llamas when a man came in with a 6 month old bobcat kitten around his neck. Tell story.
She was a horrible pet. Tell story.
Don wanted a wild cat who liked him, so he called around and found a guy willing to sell him bobcat kittens, but only if we would drive to MN to get them, because he wouldn’t ship them.
Hi, I’m Carole Baskin and I’ve been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views. If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story. The titles are the dates things happened. If you have any interest in who I really am please start at the beginning of this playlist: http://savethecats.org/
I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story. My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.
