Jamie recommended the movie called The Founder.
It was the story of how Ray Kroc build McDonalds into the fast food business that daily feeds 1% of the entire human population. This was my email to her the day after seeing it:
Last night I went to see The Founder. Great movie! Thanks!
As you know, it opens with this Calvin Coolidge quote and ends with it again.
I wrote that quote out, in pencil, and decorated with with little animals around the edges, and then framed it. The quote sat on my desk, at every desk job I ever had, from about the time I was 15 until I was in my thirties, maybe. I don't know where it got lost along the way, but I can nearly say it by heart from reading it so many times.
Whenever I feel like things just couldn't be more difficult, the first line always reassures me that I am going to make it work.
“Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent. The slogan 'press on' has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” ~ Calvin Coolidge
Hi, I’m Carole Baskin and I’ve been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views. If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story. The titles are the dates things happened. I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story. My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.
