Leave your damn dog at home.
“My wife’s an empath and she’ll tell you if your going to have a seizure or not,” is what Howie should have told the woman who insisted on bringing her pocket puppy as a “service animal” that we have to allow on property. People are so rude to insist they can bring their dogs to a cat sanctuary under the guise of being a service animal.
I was racing from the island to the sanctuary this morning because I have a 10 am business coaching call with Aaron O’Sullivan. The car in front of me ran over a low flying seagull, but I was able to come to a stop before hitting it. I had watched in horror as it was rolled over and over under the car’s frame. Traffic was heavy and screaming past on my left because I was holding up the right hand lane.
The bird was struggling to stand and I was considering getting out and grabbing him, but scenes from the accident that nearly took Bill Benjamin’s legs (see 8/31/98) flashed into my head. I could put on my flashers and hop out, but given the way traffic was piled up behind me, the furthest car back could careen into all of us, causing a domino effect with me and the bird being the most likely to die in the chain reaction.
The bird managed to get on his feet, but now was clearly rattled. I began blowing my horn and creeping toward him, so as to herd him off the pavement. It seemed like forever, but it was probably just a few minutes before he was able to walk, trot and then fly. I was so relieved to see that the bird would be okay and that I didn’t end up causing a bad wreck.
You’d think that would have put me in a good enough mood that I wouldn’t have been instantly angry at seeing Howie’s morning being wasted by the self centered old lady who just couldn’t leave her dog at home.
Hi, I’m Carole Baskin and I’ve been writing my story since I was able to write, but when the media goes to share it, they only choose the parts that fit their idea of what will generate views. These are my views and opinions. If I'm going to share my story, it should be the whole story. The titles are the dates things happened. If you have any interest in who I really am please start at the beginning of this playlist: http://savethecats.org/
I know there will be people who take things out of context and try to use them to validate their own misconception, but you have access to the whole story. My hope is that others will recognize themselves in my words and have the strength to do what is right for themselves and our shared planet.
