I didn’t take a pay check from Big Cat Rescue for the first 20 years, and had to fund its operation from my own real estate investment business during that time, because there is no money (for personal gain) in working with big cats.  We raise four million dollars a year and our expenses are about 3.5 million per annum, so we are able to use that excess to build up a trust fund for the cats, to build the capital improvements we need, such as the vacation yards and hospital, and this year raised our donation to projects in the wild from 50,000 to 80,000.  Now that we’ve built all of the buildings we need, and most of the infrastructure, we hope to continue increasing those funds to projects protecting exotic cats in the wild.

 

This money is raised from tour fees, gift shop sales and donations.   We are expanding our online gift shop sales channels to raise more money to protect more cats.  We fully expect our federal bill to pass and when it does, there will be fewer and fewer big cats in need of rescue from private homes and roadside zoos.  As that industry dies out we can turn to more protection of the U.S.’ native cats and those abroad.  Our vision is a world where all wild cats live free.
