Fa’aasu Loia won gold at the Pacific Games held in Samoa in July, for Samoa in the 69-75kg women’s middleweight division, after she defeated Tahiti’s Heiura Nena in the gold medal match. The daughter of Faiaimoa and Galuafi Loia from the villages of Siumu, Saaga and Lalomanu, Fa’aasu was the only Samoan woman in the finals.
