The 2 biggest writing mistakes are by far writing for oneself or writing for everyone. When writing a book, we need to focus on one audience and on one idea. Everything else that doesn’t fit the audience and the point should be aggressively dismissed. This is hard for most of us because we have so many ideas and we want to express them all. However, we need to remember that writing isn’t about us—it’s about our audience. We need to make sacrifices in order to satisfy our audience and make the point we need to make.
