This is the edited recording with annotations of the talk given by Sis Sylvia Bay on Sunday, 12 July 2020 at Buddhist Fellowship 'Facebook Live'.

For the first time in public, Sis Sylvia Bay shares her understanding of Sabbāsava Sutta MN 2, All the Taints. Though Buddha's audience were the Bhikkhus, this sutta is extremely important for one who is a serious practitioner. The āsavas are first defined and from various suttas stated as karmic inclinations for sensual pleasures (kāmāsava), for being/becoming (bhavāsava) for ignorance (avijjāsava) and for views (diṭṭhāsavā). The main and most important part of the talk focuses on the 7 methods which Buddha expounded to extinguish these taints depending on circumstances; in explaining this part, Sis Sylvia brings to life how our āsavas are conditionally arisen, relating them to five aggregates and our habits. Throughout and in particular, towards the end of the talk, a salient and obscure observation of the sutta is highlighted: how, in using the 7 methods, fetters are eradicated leading to stream-entry and ultimately nibbanā.
