In today's image, we see a diagram showing how we are now able to detect low frequency gravitational waves from merging supermassive black holes. This is done by measuring the timing of many different pulsars as gravitational waves cause a ripple in spacetime which slightly changes the pulsar timing. The field of gravitational wave astronomy is relatively new, having only been detected for the first time in the past decade.
