2024 April 16 - Filaments of the Vela Supernova Remnant

In today's image, we see a portion of the Vela Supernova Remnant. This is the remnant of a star that would have been seen to explode here on Earth over ten thousand years ago. The expanding filaments have been slightly enriched in heavier elements which will eventually form seed material for the next generation of stars.
