2025 NHPBC Women's Conference - Session 1

Listen Later

A plate of tiny desserts and a room full of friends set a warm tone, but our aim zeroes in on the deepest renovation of all: the heart. Not the muscle on a scan, but the biblical heart—the center of thought, desire, and will—where real life-change begins. We trace the journey from a heart of stone to a heart of flesh, asking hard questions, opening Scripture, and naming the difference between emotional moments and a life that actually obeys.

We start with clarity: total depravity doesn’t mean you’re as bad as possible; it means every part of you is touched by sin. Romans 3 and Jeremiah 17 cut through the fog—no one seeks God, the heart is deceitful, and “follow your heart” is not wise counsel. From there, we lean into hope. Ezekiel 36 holds a stunning promise: I will give you a new heart. That’s not self-help or moral polish; that’s God’s sovereign grace. You can’t demo your own soul like a renovation show. Spurgeon’s vivid line lingers: you might argue with a rock forever and never make flesh. The Spirit does what we cannot, and all boasting dies at the foot of the cross.

So how do you know renewal is real? Jesus and James make it plain. The wise build by hearing and doing. Hearers who don’t do are like houses on sand—impressive until the storm hits. A heart of flesh is teachable, pliable, and increasingly consistent in word and deed. Emotions are not dismissed; they’re welcomed as companions, not drivers. Gratitude grows as we remember salvation is a gift, not a wage. And the warning of Hebrews still presses today: do not harden your heart. Whether you feel distant and dull or freshly convicted, the right response is humble prayer and simple obedience.

We close with a call both gentle and firm: ask God to create a clean heart and renew a right spirit within you. Share this with someone who needs courage to move from hearing to doing. If the message strengthened you, subscribe, leave a review, and tell us one practice you’ll obey this week—what’s your next step?
