Over time, something begins to change. We start looking at the ranch differently. We look at a pasture and we no longer see only this year's grazing. We begin to imagine what that pasture might look like ten years from now. We think about whether the soil is becoming deeper or thinner. We wonder whether the land is becoming more resilient or more fragile. We ask ourselves if our children or grandchildren will inherit something better than what we received. And perhaps most importantly, we begin to ask a deeper question: What kind of environment am I creating here?
