Boots Reily, front man of The Coup says after he completed the song “Breathing Apparatus” he almost gave up on music because everything seemed to be working against him. "He [Boots Reily] has had to fight much harder then most artists; just in the way that most labels have dealt with him. He's just has had real crappy luck early in his career. And it was not easy. Brian says. "Everything that could have happened to basically be like Boots just stop making music, this is not working for you. And he was like "Screw you. This is what I want to do. this is what I'm called to do."
