2078 Stepping Up is Hard

Listen Later

As we grow in age, life requires us to respond to experiences and gain wisdom. With this comes challenges. Stepping up is hard.

This virtual schooling is a little whacky. That's the nicest way to address the chaos it has put us all in.

Now if you are in an area that is operating normally, be grateful. Don't take it for granted. Routine does the mind and body good.

But for those wrapped up in the craziness, remember this too shall pass.

So I was just really thinking about how our children are having to deal with stuff that we never did growing up. The worst thing I can remember was chicken pox in school and lots of snow. But otherwise, life was pretty simple.

Our children are being expected to step up even at a young age. Some of these challenges are good for them. Children are resilient.

However, there is still a lot of growing up that needs to happen.

What do you do if your child is placed in a situation where he needs to step up?

Strategy is the name of the game.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Strategy is the name of the game!

We can give our children so much. And answers is one of those things. But sometimes the greatest gift we can give is space for growth. And that is SO challenging, more so for us rather than them.

Having this space to create strategy gives them a way to gain wisdom. It's through critical thinking.

We have got to allow our children the space to think --- their thoughts not ours.

So what does this look like?

  1. Scrub for gold. So much of what is needed is right in front of us. But we can get hung up on certain areas, and off we go down the rabbit trail. What can I do right now? What do I understand now? Where are the weaker areas?
  2. Build curiosity. You know that curiosity killed the cat, but it can teach a child. Encourage your child to think beyond what is known.
  3. Let 'em fly. This is where they take what is learned and apply it to an action. Take A.I.M.

It's hard to let our children spread their wings and fly.

And you thought stepping up was hard?

It is on all sides. When your child grows, so do you!
