Do you ever find yourself swinging from one extreme to the other - In this episode, I talk about the two different sides of misery with food, and how you can lose weight through a place of love, not hate. On one side of the equation is restricting food, being hard on yourself, constantly feeling like you're broken by taking extreme measures like shots and pills to lose weight. And then on the other side, feeling like you should be able to eat whatever you want and that worrying about your weight and how you look is silly and superficial?
I found that neither extremes make my clients happy.
Restriction feels terrible and over-consuming and not caring feels bad too. Both have physical and mental negative consequences.
When I began learning from the naturally thin, I saw how they spoke to themselves, how they ate, and how they related to food. Their inner dialogue was kinder and food was not all-consuming. I realized then and continue to remind myself now, that my desire for food comes from thinking that food is going to make me feel better and make me happy and that the dopamine hit I crave isn't going to give me the life I want. It's not worth it.
